SALE TOPPER: The $36,000 top price bull of the 2026 Bullzeye Droughtmaster Bull Sale, Sommer Huxley

Report compiled by Hannah Cullen, Queensland Country Life.

The 2026 annual Bullzeye Droughtmaster bull sale at Nebo left vendors, buyers and committee members walking away excited to see what next year will bring after the average price rose $2449 and the clearance rate lifted by 13 per cent.

There were eight vendors offering 46 lots at the Nebo Saleyards on Saturday, October 10.

Competitive interest from buyers, including a new bulk buyer, saw 42 bulls sell for a 91pc clearance, $11,619 average and $36,000 top. The sale grossed $488,000.

The result was a lift on the 78pc clearance and average of $9170 set in 2025 when 60 bulls were offered.

Bullzeye sale spokesperson Riley Mckenzie said it was a great result.

"After doing three pretty tough years, we were a little bit worried once again with the season, but the buyers turned up and supported us and we have come away with a $11,619 average and cleared nearly all the bulls," he said.

"We are stoked with that."

The top price was set by Sommer Huxley, a 23-month-old offered by Daniel and Teneale Sommer, Maleny.

He was secured by Hastings Donaldson, Medway Station, Bogantungan, who had been a long-time attendee of the sale but a first-time buyer.

The Donaldson family runs its operation over four properties and will be sending Sommer Huxley to their Gympie property where he will be performing stud duties.

Mr Donaldson was confident Sommer Huxley would be ready to go as he was already "from that country and adapted".

Huxley weighed 864kg with a 142 square centimetre eye muscle area, P8 and rib fat depths of 14 and 10 millimetres and a 4.1pc intramuscular fat.

Mr Sommer thought the 2026 sale was very strong given it was dry in the area.

"In my opinion, Huxley will grow into a nice, big sire," he said.

It capped off a successful day for Sommer with all five of its bulls selling to average $22,600.

He believed his bulls sold as they did because they had "clean sheaths, were strong-bodied bulls and structurally correct".

Huxley was by Glenlands Vortex and out of a daughter of Glenlands Titans.

The second top price was Sommer Hitman, secured by Diamond Hills, Rosedale, for $24,000.

Bulk buyer was Dale Sibson, Jellinbah Pastoral, Dysart who secured eight bulls to average of $10,375.

He commended the quality of bulls on offer, with his purchases bound for his commercial herd.

While he hadn't bought from the sale before, he had purchased bulls from some of the vendors before which gave him confidence that the bulls would perform in his herd.

Other bulk buyers for the day were Annandale Pastoral, Nebo who purchased seven bulls to average $9428 and Chesalon Grazing, Alpha purchasing four to average $12,000.

Interest via StockLive was strong for 2026 with seven lots selling online after 22 bidders registered from 170 active viewers.

Josh Heck from GDL Rockhampton said the 2026 results were outstanding with strength shown from lot one right through to the last lot.

"This was the best result from the Bullzeye sale since relocating to Nebo," he said.

"It will really re-invigorate the Bullzeye vendors to bring another quality line of bulls next year."
